Resources for Keeping Kids Safe

Parenting Safe Children Workshops

On February 24th and 25th, 2012 the Pueblo Child Advocacy Center and the Tenth Judicial District Attorney’s Office will present Feather Berkower, nationally known trainer and author who will present two workshops — one for professionals working with children and one for the general community — on empowering adults to keep children safe from sexual abuse. Look for details in early 2012!

Good Touch, Bad Touch Classes

Good Touch, Bad Touch is a curriculum designed to teach children that their bodies are their own, when they should object to touches, and to tell a trusted adult if something happens that makes them uncomfortable. The Pueblo Child Advocacy Center’s Family Advocate is trained to teach this curriculum for grades K-5, and can work with teachers, schools, and other groups to offer the training.

Training Staff and Teachers to Recognize and Report Child Abuse

Those who work with children every day are truly the front lines in keeping children safe by reporting child abuse. The Pueblo Child Advocacy Center staff are available to provide training to school staff and faculty, to day care providers and to others who work with children. The training covers signs of child abuse, who is a mandatory reporters, how to make a report and how to respond to a child who reveals abuse. The training also engages groups in analyzing brief case studies to determine whether or not to report an incident.

Safety Planning for Faith Communities

Because churches and faith communities are places where congregations want to trust each other, they are especially vulnerable to being infiltrated by pedophiles who want to gain access to children. The Pueblo Child Advocacy Center has assembled presentations, sample policies, and forms to use with those who want to work or volunteer with children. Our staff is available to make presentations to faith communities and to work with church committees to develop strong policies that keep children safe.
